Another remarkable characteristic of Acorn Woodpeckers is that they will care for young that is not theirs not many birds have that characteristic. Depending on food availability not all acorn woodpeckers make granaries (like the woodpeckers in Arizona)

Woodpeckers don?t migrate so they store they?re acquired acorns in the bark of Douglas Furs. They make special holes in the bark and then insert an acorn in such a way that other creature can?t get them out because the acorn swells and lodges inside the bark.

There are four major groups of birds of prey-
-buteous-long wings, wide tail soars to search for food. Doesn?t need to flap wings and rides thermals all day
-accipitors-short stubby wings, long tails- forest hawks, good maneuvers
-Falcons- built for speed, fastest animals on the planet 120-150mph! Long sharp wings for speed, narrow tail
-Harriers: Medium size birds with long, narrow wings and tails. They are distinctive in flight as they glide low over the ground in search of prey. Mostly seen over marshes and open fields and is similar to an owl as it channels sound like one well.
